Every decision I make, every hug I give away, and every bite I enjoy resonates from my core. Trim the fat and live in the love of Christ.
Shona is the epitome of what is to be a "woman" and what it is to embrace a life with Christ as the center. Whether its telling her life story or a random conversation, it only takes a few moments of getting to know her to see that she is an authentic and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend.
"I love when someone has tapped into their organic self. It usually means they've connected with the Father in an amazing way! There is no need for pretention when you know who you are in him. Doesn't matter if you're in jeans and a t-shirt or a 3-piece suit, your God-given influence will impact those around you."
Her infectious laughter and enthralling way with words leave you uplifted and fascinated by the possibilities of life. Born in Upstate NY, Shona learned the meaning of taking on the fun moments of life at an early age.
"My parents would have theeeeee BEST house parties! The neighbors, my parents' coworkers, and their children would all pile into our townhouse for a night of fun, food, laughter, and dancing. Music on vinyl! My father had a killer music collection. I never wanted those nights to end. Yea! I had a good childhood."
Sharing the word of God and giving her testimony of victory over death are most rewarding for her. Her story spans from being a widow at the age of 23 to having suffered an unexpected stroke at the age of 35, discovering massive blood clots in her brain. According to several physicians, it was medically impossible for her to have survived such trauma. Even with some traces of clots remaining, God spared her life and without any faculties lacking.
"I remember a physical therapist coming into my room on the Neurology floor of the hospital. She was fearfully surprised to learn that I could get up out of the bed and walk effortlessly. She ran over to me, I guess she was expecting me to fall? I don't know. What I do know is God is a healer!"
Her first written work titled, “Married to the Down Low”, is a tell all account of her life as the wife of a former pastor living a secret lifestyle. Having mourned the death of a previous spouse, this fatal blow was more than anyone could handle. But it was God who put the pieces back together again and carried her through to a place of wholeness.
"Whew chile! Clutch ya pearls! This read is not for the faint of heart. I tell the nitty gritty, but the book isn't about bashing my ex-husband. Though I tell the plain truth, the book is more about me. It's about the state of my heart and my mind and how through the help of the holy spirit, I was nurtured back into a place of wellness. Today, I'm beyond thankful to say that I'm aligned in marriage with my best friend!
Shona serves in ministry with her husband, Pastor Donald Chisholm Jr. of The Latter Rain Cathedral in Lockport, New York.
